National Planning Commission (NPC) and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) jointly organized a “Consultative Workshop on a Review of National Conservation Strategy of Nepal” to review the National Conservation Strategy (NCS). The workshop is also held to discuss about policy in the light of the changed national and international contexts.
According to the organizers, it will help the government, non government, civil society and community organizations, private sector and development partners and other stakeholders to provide their suggestions and feedbacks for the development and betterment of a revised or new strategy.
This in turn would build on the present strengths and achievements, address the gaps in the existing strategy, and also respond positively to the new emerging conservation and development challenges and opportunities inNepal, IUCN said in a statement.
“The revised/new NCS would take into account the national developments, and resulting actions over the years associated with the use of natural resources, the socio-economic changes at the international level which do have significant implications forNepal’s nature conservation policy.”
The Strategy was developed in 1988 under the coordination of NPC and with technical support from IUCN.
